With just a few tools and a bit of patience, you can have the switch installed and working in no time. If the light turns on, then you’re done! Installing a 2-way switch is an easy task if you follow the instructions carefully. In position 2 (when the switch is up or ‘off’), COM and L2 are connected together. Turn the power back on and press the switch. Each of the gangs (or switches) above in Fig 2 (of which there are two) work like this (Fig 3): In position 1 (when the switch is down or ‘on’), COM and L1 are connected together (just like the one way switch ). This will protect them from any damage as well as keep them secure. After you’ve connected the wires, wrap them with electrical tape. Finally, connect the ground wire (typically green or bare) to the COM terminal. Connect the black wire to the L1 terminal and the copper wire to the L2 terminal. Most switches have three terminals – L1, L2 and COM. The wires should be connected to the corresponding terminals on the switch. Once the switch is mounted and secured, it’s time to connect the wires to it. ![]() Secure the switch to the wall by using the supplied screws. Take the switch out of its box and mount it into the wall. Once the wires are correctly connected to the terminals, it’s time to install the switch. For example, if the black wire is connected to the left terminal, then the copper wire should be connected to the right terminal. Make sure that the wires are connected properly to their respective terminals. This will expose the copper wire underneath.
